What we do
Capacity & Leadership
The measure of this work is what a team can do once we have gone. NoviThea trains and mentors people to run their own research, judge evidence honestly and lead when the answer is not yet known.
The capability has to stay after we leave
Repeat commissions are not the aim. This work puts methods, evidence and judgement into the hands of the people who will keep using them, in the setting where they will use them.
- Which research and analytical practices need strengthening?
- How can evidence be used more carefully in decisions?
- What does leadership look like when the situation is uncertain?
- Where do teams need practical space to learn together?
Ways of working within this
Research capability
Research design, qualitative and quantitative methods, evidence synthesis, analytical reasoning, and reproducible, transparent practice.
Evidence use
Interpreting evidence, assessing its strengths and limitations, communicating uncertainty, and using research in policy or organisational decisions.
Leadership for complex systems
Practical support for leading amid uncertainty, adaptive decision-making, interdisciplinary collaboration and work across institutional boundaries.
Responsible technology and AI capability
Informed use of AI in research and knowledge work, with attention to human review, provenance, limitations, integrity and responsible adoption.
Team and institutional capability
Strengthening internal processes through mentoring, practical frameworks, methods support and learning systems that fit the organisation.
Formats
Workshops, short courses, masterclasses, facilitated sessions, team training or a tailored institutional programme. The format follows the group and the question, not a catalogue.
Learning through the work itself
Capability is built on live questions, not transferred in a session. We scope the work around the people in the room, the decisions in front of them and the constraints they are under.
Who this is for
Research teams, universities, public institutions, NGOs, funders, evidence organisations and partnerships building capacity they intend to keep.
Confident individuals are not the same as a capable organisation
People come back from training able to do something their workload, their approval chain or their reporting format will not let them do. Whether judgement survives depends on the time allowed for it and on whether anyone above them wants to hear an uncertain answer.
- Learning connected to live questions, so methods and concepts are tested against decisions people genuinely need to make.
- Space to examine the limits of evidence as well as its usefulness, including how uncertainty can be communicated responsibly.
- Support that strengthens collaboration across roles, disciplines and institutions rather than locating expertise in one team or person.
- Practical materials, routines and mentoring that can continue to be used, adapted and shared by the people closest to the work.
Discuss capability development
Who needs the capability, what they have to decide with it, and what their institution will allow.
